309S is a variety of 309 stainless steel with low carbon content, used for occasions where welding is required. The lower carbon content minimizes the precipitation of carbides in the heat affected zone near the weld, while the precipitation of the carbides may lead to intergranular corrosion in stainless steels in certain environments.
309S is a free cutting stainless steel containing sulfur, used for occasions requiring easy cutting and high surface finish.
