  SANYO Semiconductor Co., Ltd introduced new models of high-voltage gate switching driver ICs- TND522VS and TND519SS. They are gate drivers optimized to drive the gates of power MOSFETs and IGBTs in motors of electrical bicycles and air-conditioners, plasma discharge, ballast circuit of the LCD projectors, or power supplies of the photovoltaic system. They meet the needs for high voltage and high output current characteristics.

  TND522VS achieved the industry's smallest size*1 as a single phase high side switching driver IC, which can make your motors even smaller and lighter. TND519SS has a built-in simultaneous ON preventing function, which can contribute to high reliability of your products.

  In motor driver application, semiconductor devices are used for power conversion. Especially for those high power uses, a power switching device such as power MOSFET or IGBT is needed. However, since the input capacitance of these power devices is large, they cannot be driven directly from the control IC such as a microcontroller due to the low voltage and low current. To solve this, a gate switching driver IC that amplifies the voltage and current is needed. Up to now, in our original ExPD*3 series, we have succeeded in commercialization of the gate switching driver ICs and have gained a considerable market.

*3 ExPD (Excellent Performance Power & RF Device) is high-performance IC series that integrates several power and RF discrete components, which can contribute to parts count reduction, high efficiency and down-sizing of the usesend products. "ExPD" is a trademark of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd.

Product Main Features

  1. High voltage, the industry's smallest size*173% smaller and 83% lighter*2 (TND522VS)
      By adopting fine high-voltage process (5m rule 2m rule), optimized layout and small-sized high-power packaging, TND522VS achieved the industry's smallest size (2.9mm2.8mm0.75mm) while maintaining equivalent performance (voltage supply 600V / output current 200mA) as SANYO's conventional products. Compared with SANYO's conventional products, it is 73% smaller in size and 83% lighter in weight.
      In addition, compared with equivalent circuit composed of discrete components, parts count needed can be reduced from 6 to 1, mount area can be reduced by 75%, weight can be reduced by 95%.
  2. High output: 600V/200mA; supports wide-range applications (TND522VS)
      With the industry's smallest size, TND522VSS achieved high output current Io+/Io- = 200mA/400mA (@VDD=15V). It can be used in wide range applications such as motors and power supplies (see Fig 4).
      By connecting PNP/NPN transistor to the output side, further higher output current characteristic can be obtained, so it is optimal for the sets that require high output power supply such as Plasma TVs and photovoltaic systems. For an example, in case of use in combination with SANYO's transistor CPH506*4, output current as high as 5A can be obtained. However its mount area is still 45% smaller than that of the competitors(see Fig 5). In addition, switching loss can be decreased due to its high output, so it is power-saving and friendly to the environment.

  3. High reliability: simultaneous ON preventing function is built in (TND519SS)
      TND519SS is a highly-reliable half-bridge driver with simultaneous ON preventing function. It can protect the set from being destroyed by the through current that will flow when high side power MOSFET/IGBT and low side power
