The Persians made oil of Roses. The Greeks also made Rose oil and
used it for balsaming their beloved dead ones. The Romans used the
flowers to keep diseases away and used them for ceremonies and
parties. The oldest fossil remains of Rose petals are found in
California and are about 40 million years old. A religious legend
tells the story that Roses did not have thorns in Paradise, but
developed them when Eve and Adam had to leave.
